Law Assessment Terms and Conditions
Last updated 19 October 2026. Read our privacy notice.
These terms set out the rules for using www.lawassessment.com. They cover applying for an account, buying practice assessments, getting free access through tutoring, and using the site as a tutor. Please read them carefully before you apply for an account or place an order. If you have a question about them, email us at enquiries@lawassessment.com.
Key points for buyers:
- You must be 16 or over, and signed in to your account, to buy at checkout. You pay through PayPal, with your PayPal account or a debit or credit card (section 7 and section 8).
- The price shown at checkout is the total you pay, including VAT. There are no extra fees, and each purchase is a one-off payment that does not renew (section 8).
- Your access lasts 12 months. Attempts you have not started by the end of your access period are lost (section 9).
- You can cancel within 14 days for a full refund, but only until you start an attempt at any assessment in that order. Once you start one, you lose your right to cancel that order (section 10).
- If something is wrong with what you bought, you have legal rights, including repair, replacement, a price reduction or a refund (section 11).
- If you are a consumer living outside England and Wales, including in the EU, you keep the consumer protections of the place where you live and can bring a claim there (section 27).
1. About us and how to contact us
1.1 www.lawassessment.com ("Law Assessment" or "the site") is run by London Law Tutor Ltd. Law Assessment is one of our trading names. In these terms, "we", "us" and "our" mean London Law Tutor Ltd. "You" and "your" mean the person using the site.
1.2 London Law Tutor Ltd is a company registered in England and Wales. Our company number is 08253481. Our registered office is at Berkeley Square House, Berkeley Square, London W1J 6BD, United Kingdom. Our VAT number is 160291824.
1.3 We also trade as London Law Tutor, Manchester Law Tutors, Birmingham Law Tutors, Nottingham Law Tutors and Law Tutors Online. We also run the Law Blog at www.uklawtutors.com (see section 20).
1.4 You can contact us:
- by email at enquiries@lawassessment.com;
- by phone on +44 7549 525230; or
- by post at our registered office address above.
1.5 If we need to contact you, we will use the email address you gave us when you applied for an account or placed an order. When these terms say "in writing", this includes email.
2. These terms and how you accept them
2.1 These terms cover:
- your use of the site, including free samples;
- student and tutor accounts;
- buying practice assessments;
- free access to practice assessments for students who book tutoring with us; and
- tutor and student pairing and "Practise together" sessions.
2.2 Most of these terms apply to everyone, including sections 1 to 3, 5, 6 and 16 to 27. Some sections only apply to some users:
- section 4: anyone who applies for or holds an account;
- sections 7 to 11: anyone who buys a practice assessment (parts of section 11 also cover free samples and free access through tutoring);
- sections 12, 13 and 14: students who get free access through tutoring; and
- sections 13, 14 and 15: tutors.
2.3 When you apply for an account, you must tick a box to agree to these terms. If you apply as a tutor, this includes the tutor terms in section 15. If you apply as a student, the same box asks you to confirm that you are 16 or over. We cannot consider your application unless you tick it. The sign-up form also tells you, in a separate line, that our Privacy Notice explains how we use your details. The Privacy Notice gives you information. It is not something you agree to.
2.4 When you press "Pay" at checkout, or send us an order request, you agree that these terms will apply if we accept your order. Pressing "Pay" at checkout commits you to pay (see clause 7.2). Sending an order request does not (see clause 7.5). The checkout page links to these terms so you can read them first. You will also be asked to tick a separate box about when your access starts. Section 10 explains why this matters.
2.5 If you use the site without an account, for example to try a free sample, you accept these terms by using the site. If you do not agree to them, please do not use the site.
2.6 These terms are only available in English. We suggest you save or print a copy. When you buy from us, we will also send you a copy of these terms with your order confirmation email (see clause 7.7).
2.7 These terms do not cover tutoring itself. If you book tutoring with London Law Tutor or one of our sister tutoring websites, that booking is covered by the terms of the website you book through. Those terms cannot take away your legal rights (see clause 10.10).
2.8 Some of these terms are different for consumers and for business users. You are a consumer if you use the site mainly for yourself, for example for your own study. You are a business user if you use it mainly for your work. Tutors are business users.
3. Who can use Law Assessment
3.1 You must be 16 or over to apply for an account or to buy a practice assessment.
3.2 If you are 16 or 17, a parent or guardian must agree before you buy anything from us. We may ask you to confirm that they have agreed. We recommend that they read these terms with you. PayPal sets its own age rules for PayPal accounts, so a parent or guardian may need to pay for you.
3.3 If we find that an account holder is under 16, we will close the account. We will refund you for any attempts that have not been started, as set out in clause 9.7.
4. Your account
4.1 You do not need an account to try a free sample, or to send us an order request. You do need to be signed in to your account to buy at checkout, and you need an account to use a practice assessment you buy, because we add your access and save your results there. You also need an account to get free access through tutoring, and every tutor needs one.
4.2 To get an account, you apply on our sign-up page as a student or as a tutor. Our admin team reviews each application. We will email you to tell you whether we have approved or declined it.
4.3 We may decline an application, for example if it is incomplete or we cannot check the details you gave us.
4.4 If we approve your application, we will email you a link to set your password. The link works once only and expires after 7 days. Your password must be at least 10 characters long. If your link expires, contact us.
4.5 You must:
- give us true, accurate and complete details, and tell us if they change;
- keep your account for your own use, as each account is for one person only;
- keep your password safe and not share it, or any other sign-in details, with anyone; and
- tell us straight away at enquiries@lawassessment.com if you think someone else knows your password or has used your account.
4.6 You are responsible for anything done through your account by someone you allowed to use it.
4.7 To help you, our admin team can view the site as it appears to you. This includes your results, your answers and your Practise together records. They do this only to give you support, to look into a problem or to deal with a complaint or concern. While viewing the site as you, they will not change anything in your account or act in your name, unless you ask them to or it is needed to fix a problem you have reported. Some of our team work outside the UK. Our Privacy Notice explains this.
4.8 You can close your account at any time by emailing us. Before you close it, you can ask us for a copy of your results. Closing your account does not by itself give you a refund, but your right to cancel (section 10) and your rights if something is wrong (section 11) still apply. Once your account is closed, you lose access to your results and to any attempts you have not used.
4.9 We may suspend or close your account if:
- you break these terms in a serious way, or keep breaking them after we have asked you to stop;
- you have given us false information, for example about your identity, age, qualifications or tutoring booking;
- you ask PayPal or your bank to reverse a payment you made to us (a chargeback or payment dispute) without a good reason. This does not stop you using any right you have to dispute a payment;
- we reasonably believe this is needed to protect the security of the site or other users;
- the law requires us to; or
- you have not signed in for 2 years. We will email you at least 30 days before we close your account for this reason. Our Privacy Notice explains what then happens to your information.
4.10 Unless the problem is serious or urgent, we will tell you first and give you a reasonable chance to put things right.
4.11 While your account is suspended, you cannot use it, including any paid access. If we close your account, your access ends.
4.12 If we close your account because you broke these terms in a serious way, we will refund you for any attempts you have not started (see clause 9.7). We may keep back any reasonable costs or losses your breach has caused us, for example the cost of removing our content that you shared online. We will explain how we worked out any amount we keep. If we close your account for any other reason, we will refund you as set out in clause 19.4. If we suspend your account for a reason that is not your fault, we will make sure you do not lose out, for example by extending your access period.
4.13 The student sign-up form has a box you can tick if you would like to practise with one of our tutors. Ticking it does not commit you to anything. It does not by itself pair you with a tutor on this site (see sections 12 and 13). If you tick it, our team may email you once with information about booking tutoring through the tutoring website for your jurisdiction.
5. What we offer
5.1 Law Assessment offers online practice assessments (mock exams) for law exams. You take them in your web browser.
5.2 At the date of these terms, you can buy practice assessments for the Solicitors Qualifying Examination (SQE). SQE1 and SQE2 are its two stages. SQE1 uses single best answer questions (SBAQs), where you pick the one best answer from a list. You can buy:
- SQE1 Practice Assessment, 50 SBAQs, with one attempt;
- SQE1 Practice Assessment, FLK2, 57 SBAQs, with one attempt (FLK2 means Functioning Legal Knowledge 2, the second SQE1 paper);
- SQE1 Practice Assessment, 90 SBAQs, with one attempt; and
- SQE2 Written Practice Set: five written papers with sample answers, with one attempt at each paper.
5.3 Each product page describes what is included, the number of attempts and the price. That description forms part of our contract with you.
5.4 We are preparing practice sets for other exams. These are not on sale yet:
- the PGDL (Postgraduate Diploma in Law);
- the LLB (law degree);
- the LNAT (National Admissions Test for Law);
- the Bar course (the Bar Practice Course or Bar Training Course);
- the New York bar exam (the Multistate Bar Examination, or MBE);
- the PCLL Conversion Examination in Hong Kong; and
- the Singapore Part A and Part B exams.
For some of them you can try a free sample or register your interest. Registering interest does not commit you to buy anything. It also does not mean that we will offer that product. If you register interest, we will use your email address only to tell you when that practice set becomes available, and we will not send you other marketing. Our Privacy Notice says how long we keep it.
5.5 You can try these free samples without an account:
- 10 SQE1 questions;
- one SQE2 writing task; and
- 5-question samples for the New York bar exam, the PCLL Conversion Examination and the Singapore exams.
5.6 Free sample results are kept only in your own web browser. If you clear your browser data or use a different device, you will not see them.
5.7 SQE1 practice assessments are timed at the pace the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) has set for SQE1 from January 2027. This is about 1.8 minutes for each question.
5.8 If you have an account, your results are saved to it. For SQE1 this includes your score, your answers, your timings and a breakdown by subject.
5.9 For the SQE2 Written Practice Set, you write your answers and then grade them yourself on the SRA's A to F scale, using our sample answers as a guide. Marking by a tutor is not included. It is only available to students who get free access through tutoring and are paired with a tutor (see sections 12 and 13).
5.10 What you need. To use the site you need an internet connection and an up-to-date version of a common web browser, such as Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari, with JavaScript turned on. The site works on phones and tablets, but we recommend a computer for timed assessments. You are responsible for your own device and internet connection, and for their cost. We are not responsible for problems caused by them, but this does not affect your rights if our digital content is faulty (section 11).
5.11 How assessments work. Assessments are taken online in your browser. We do not supply them as downloads. The timer for a timed attempt runs in your browser and does not pause. If you lose your internet connection, the timer keeps running and you can carry on, but you need a connection to save your result at the end. If you close or reload the page before you finish, the attempt ends and your answers are not saved. If this happens because of a problem with your own device or connection, tell us and we will reset the attempt once for each assessment, as a goodwill gesture. If it happens because of a problem on our side, clause 11.6 applies. If you have an account, your saved results stay in it for as long as your account is open. You see the correct answers and our explanations at the end of an attempt (or after each question in study mode), and you may not be able to see them again after your access period ends.
6. What our assessments are, and what they are not
6.1 Law Assessment is independent. No exam body runs, approves or endorses it. This includes:
- the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA);
- the Bar Standards Board (BSB);
- the LNAT Consortium;
- the National Conference of Bar Examiners and the New York State Board of Law Examiners;
- the PCLL Conversion Examination Board in Hong Kong; and
- the Singapore Institute of Legal Education.
We use their names, and the names of their exams, only to say which exam our assessments help you prepare for.
6.2 Our questions, explanations and sample answers are written by our tutors. Some free samples for non-UK exams were first drafted with the help of AI tools. Tutors who work in each of those places are now checking them. None of our content is an official exam question or an official past paper.
6.3 We cannot promise that you will pass any exam. Your result depends on many things, including your own preparation and how you perform on the day.
6.4 Practice scores are a guide only. They help you track your own progress, but they do not predict your real exam result. The SRA sets the SQE1 pass mark separately for each sitting, so no practice score means that you would pass. Grades you give yourself, or that a tutor gives you, for SQE2 practice papers are not official grades.
6.5 Our content is study material. It is not legal advice. Do not rely on it for a real legal problem. If you need legal advice, speak to a qualified lawyer.
6.6 Our content reflects the law and exam formats at the date it was written. The law, exam specifications and exam formats change. We review and update our content, but there may be a delay before an update appears. Always check the latest specification and guidance published by your exam body.
6.7 If you think a question, answer or explanation is wrong or out of date, please tell us. We will check it and correct it if needed.
6.8 Our prices cover only our practice assessments. They do not include any fee charged by an exam body, such as the SRA, the BSB, the LNAT Consortium or a bar admission authority. You are responsible for registering and booking your real exam, paying its fees and meeting the exam body's rules on who can sit it.
7. Ordering and when the contract is made
7.1 There are two ways to buy from us:
- online checkout, for products you can buy on the site (clauses 7.2 to 7.4); and
- an order request, for products we cannot yet sell through online checkout (clause 7.5).
7.2 Online checkout. You must be signed in to your account to buy at checkout, because that is where we add your access and save your results. Checkout works like this:
- the checkout page shows the product, what it includes, the number of attempts and the total price, set out as "Total £X, including VAT, for 12 months' access";
- you tick a box that says: "I want access to start as soon as my order is accepted. I understand that I will lose my 14-day right to cancel once I start an attempt at any assessment in this order." You cannot pay without ticking it (see section 10);
- you choose a PayPal button labelled "Pay", and pay with your PayPal account or with a debit or credit card through PayPal. When you confirm the payment with PayPal, you are placing an order that you must pay for; and
- PayPal then tells us whether your payment has gone through.
7.3 When PayPal confirms your payment, we take it, add the access to your account straight away and send you our order confirmation email. The order confirmation email is our acceptance of your order. Our contract with you is made when we send it, and it starts your 14-day cancellation period (section 10) and your 12-month access period (section 9).
7.4 Sometimes PayPal holds a payment before releasing it to us (a pending payment). If this happens, we do not accept your order straight away. Once the payment clears, our admin team adds your access and we send you the order confirmation email. Your contract is made then. We aim to do this within 1 to 2 working days of the payment clearing. If the payment does not clear, we will not accept your order, there is no contract, and any money taken from you will be returned in full.
7.5 Order requests. For products we cannot yet sell through online checkout, ordering works like this:
- you fill in the order form with your name, your email address and the product you want, and tick the box described in clause 7.2. You can do this while signed in to your account or without one;
- this sends us an order request, which is not a contract and does not commit you to pay;
- the site automatically emails you to confirm that we have received your order request (this email does not accept your order);
- we email you a secure payment link. Our email sets out the product, the price, the access period and the number of attempts, and the payment page shows the price next to the button you use to pay. If a payment link has an expiry time, our email or the payment page will tell you. If your link has expired, ask us for a new one;
- you pay through the payment page; and
- we add your access and send you our order confirmation email. Our contract with you is made when we send it, as in clause 7.3.
We aim to email your payment link within 2 working days of your order request, and to give you access within 1 to 2 working days of receiving your payment. If you do not have an account yet, apply for one on our sign-up page with the same email address you used for your order request. We approve it once your payment has arrived and then add the access to it.
7.6 We may decline an order before we accept it, for example if:
- the product is not available;
- there is a mistake in the price or description;
- we cannot check your details; or
- we believe you are under 16.
If we decline your order after you have paid, we will tell you and give you a full refund. We will make this refund within 14 days, through PayPal or the payment method you used.
7.7 The order confirmation email is sent to the email address on your account (or, for an order request, the address you gave us). It confirms:
- what you bought, the price you paid and the number of attempts;
- the PayPal transaction reference (or other payment reference);
- the date your access ends; and
- the wording you ticked at checkout about starting your access and losing your right to cancel (see section 10).
We will attach a copy of these terms to the order confirmation email, including the cancellation form in clause 10.7. This email is our written confirmation of your contract, so please keep it. We do not give you access before we send it.
7.8 Before you pay, check the product and price on the checkout page. You can leave checkout without paying at any time before you confirm the payment with PayPal. PayPal lets you check the amount, and correct your PayPal or card details, before you confirm. For an order request, you can change your name, email address and product in the form until you press "Send my order", and check the product and price on the payment page before you pay. If you notice a mistake after you have paid or sent an order request, email us straight away. If we have not yet accepted your order, we will correct it. If we have, your right to cancel (section 10) applies.
7.9 We keep a record of your order, of what you ticked at checkout and of the version of these terms that applied to it. You can ask us for a copy at any time.
8. Prices and payment
8.1 Our prices are in pounds sterling (GBP) and include any VAT that applies. London Law Tutor Ltd is registered for VAT. Our prices and these terms are the same wherever you live.
8.2 The price you pay is the total price shown at checkout (or in our payment link) when you place your order, unless clause 8.3 applies. We do not add any booking, card, service or other fees on top of it.
8.3 We try to make sure the prices on the site are correct. If we find a price mistake before we accept your order, we will tell you. You can then choose to go ahead at the correct price or to cancel your order. If the correct price is lower than the price shown, we will charge you the lower price. Sometimes we only find a price mistake after we have accepted your order. If the mistake was obvious, and you could reasonably have noticed it, we may end the contract. We will then refund you in full.
8.4 We take payment through PayPal. For customers in the UK and the EU, the PayPal service is provided by PayPal (Europe) S.à r.l. et Cie, S.C.A., of Luxembourg. PayPal decides which payment options it offers you, such as paying with a PayPal account or with a debit or credit card. PayPal's own terms and privacy statement apply to your payment. We never see or store your card details or your PayPal sign-in details.
8.5 You must pay in full before we give you access.
8.6 Each purchase is a one-off payment for 12 months' access. It does not renew automatically, and we will not take any further payment from you unless you place a new order.
8.7 If your card or PayPal account uses a currency other than pounds sterling, PayPal or your bank may convert the price and may charge you a fee or use its own exchange rate. These charges are set by PayPal or your bank, not by us.
8.8 We make refunds through PayPal, back to the PayPal account or card you paid with, unless you expressly agree to something else. We do not charge a fee for refunds. How quickly the money then reaches your account or card depends on PayPal and your bank.
8.9 If you need a VAT receipt, please email us.
9. Your access period and attempts
9.1 Your access to a practice assessment you have bought lasts 12 months from the date we give you access. This is the date of your order confirmation email (see clauses 7.3 and 7.4), which also tells you the date your access ends. We show the access period and the number of attempts on each product page and on the checkout and payment pages.
9.2 You get the number of attempts shown on the product page. At the date of these terms, each SQE1 practice assessment includes one attempt. The SQE2 Written Practice Set includes one attempt at each of its five papers. Each SQE2 paper counts as a separate attempt.
9.3 You start an attempt when you press the button that begins the assessment or, for the SQE2 Written Practice Set, the paper. At the date of these terms, this is the "Begin assessment" button for SQE1 and the "Start" link on each SQE2 paper. Before you press it, the site shows you how long the attempt lasts and how it works, and reading this does not use your attempt. For SQE2, the task itself appears once you start, because reading it is part of the timed paper. Once you start an attempt, it is used, even if you do not finish it, except as set out in clauses 5.11 and 11.6.
9.4 You can start any unused attempts at any time during your access period. When your access period ends, you can no longer start them, and we do not refund unused attempts. This does not affect your rights under section 11.
9.5 If a problem on our side stops you from finishing an attempt, see clause 11.6.
9.6 Your access is for you only. Sections 16 and 17 explain what you can and cannot do with it.
9.7 Where these terms say we will refund you for attempts you have not started, we work out the refund like this:
- if you have not started any attempt in the order, we refund the full price; and
- otherwise, we refund a share of the price for each attempt you have not started. For the SQE2 Written Practice Set, each paper is worth one fifth of the price.
10. Your right to cancel
10.1 If you are a consumer, the law gives you a right to cancel your purchase within 14 days. This right comes from the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013. If you live in the European Union, the law of your country gives you a similar right, and this section applies to you in the same way. The right to cancel does not apply to business users.
10.2 Your cancellation period ends 14 days after the day we send your order confirmation email (see clauses 7.3 and 7.7).
10.3 Our practice assessments are digital content. The law says we must not give you access during the 14-day cancellation period unless you ask for it and confirm that you understand you will lose your right to cancel. So, when you order, you tick a box that says: "I want access to start as soon as my order is accepted. I understand that I will lose my 14-day right to cancel once I start an attempt at any assessment in this order." By ticking it, you:
- ask for your access to start as soon as we accept your order; and
- confirm that you understand you will lose your right to cancel once you start an attempt at any assessment in that order.
You cannot pay at checkout, or send an order request, without ticking this box.
10.4 Your order confirmation email will confirm what you ticked (see clause 7.7). By law, your right to cancel could end as soon as your access starts. We give you more time than that: your right to cancel ends only when you start an attempt (see clause 9.3).
10.5 This means:
- you can cancel and get a full refund at any time during the 14 days, as long as you have not started an attempt at any assessment in that order; and
- once you start an attempt at any assessment in an order, you can no longer cancel any part of that order. For example, if you buy the SQE2 Written Practice Set and start one paper, you cannot cancel the other four.
10.6 Sometimes you keep your full right to cancel, even after you start an attempt. This happens if you did not tick the box described in clause 10.3, or if your order confirmation email did not confirm it. In that case you can still cancel within the 14 days. You will not have to pay for anything you have used.
10.7 To cancel, send us a clear statement that you are cancelling before your cancellation period ends. It is enough to send it in time, even if we read it later. The easiest way is to email enquiries@lawassessment.com. You can also write to us or phone us. Please give your name, the email address you used to order, the product and the date of your order. You can use the model cancellation form below, but you do not have to:
- To: London Law Tutor Ltd (Law Assessment), Berkeley Square House, Berkeley Square, London W1J 6BD, United Kingdom. Email: enquiries@lawassessment.com
- I give notice that I cancel my contract for the supply of the following digital content: (product name)
- Ordered on: (date)
- PayPal transaction reference (if you have it): (reference)
- Name: (your name)
- Address: (your address)
- Signature: (only if you send this form on paper)
- Date: (date)
10.8 If you cancel in time, we will end your access to that order. We will refund the full price within 14 days after the day you tell us you are cancelling. We will refund you through PayPal, to the PayPal account or card you paid with, unless you expressly agree to something else (see clause 8.8). We will not charge you a fee for the refund.
10.9 After your right to cancel has ended, we do not give refunds if you change your mind. This does not affect your rights if something is wrong with your assessment (section 11).
10.10 Complimentary access comes with tutoring you book with us and has no separate price, so this section does not apply to it separately. If you cancel your tutoring and get a refund, we may end your complimentary access (see clause 12.4). If you are a consumer and booked tutoring online, by email or by phone, the law gives you a right to cancel it within 14 days, whatever the tutoring terms say. The terms of the website you booked through explain how to cancel.
11. If something is wrong with your assessment
11.1 If you are a consumer, the Consumer Rights Act 2015 says that the digital content we supply must:
- be of satisfactory quality;
- be fit for any particular purpose you told us about before you bought it;
- match its description and the information we gave you before you bought it; and
- be content that we have the right to supply to you.
11.2 If it does not, you can ask us to repair or replace it, for example by fixing a fault or giving you a new attempt. If repair or replacement is not possible, or we cannot do it within a reasonable time and without significant inconvenience to you, you can ask for a price reduction. Depending on the problem, this could be up to the full price. We will pay it within 14 days of agreeing that you are entitled to it, using the same payment method, with no fee. If we did not have the right to supply the content to you, you are entitled to a refund.
11.3 Our site should not harm your device. If something we supply damages your device, or other digital content you own, because we did not take reasonable care, we will repair the damage or pay you fair compensation. This also applies to free samples.
11.4 Free samples cost nothing, so clauses 11.1 and 11.2 do not apply to them. Clause 11.3 and clause 21.2 still apply.
11.5 The rights in clauses 11.1 and 11.2 also apply to complimentary access you receive with tutoring you have paid for (see section 12).
11.6 If a problem on our side stops you from using paid access or finishing an attempt, tell us as soon as you can. We will look into it. If we caused the problem, we will reset your attempt, extend your access period or give you another remedy under this section.
11.7 Tutor marking and Practise together are services. If you are a consumer, we must provide them with reasonable care and skill. If we do not, you can ask us to do the work again. If that is not possible, or we cannot do it within a reasonable time and without significant inconvenience to you, you can ask for a price reduction.
11.8 To report a problem, email enquiries@lawassessment.com with your name, the product and a description of what went wrong. You may send us screenshots for this purpose.
11.9 Nothing in these terms affects your legal rights. For more information about your rights, visit the Citizens Advice website at www.citizensadvice.org.uk.
11.10 If you are a consumer and live in the European Union, the law of your country (based on the EU Digital Content Directive) gives you rights like those in this section, and these terms cannot take them away. In particular:
- what we supply must match the contract throughout your access period;
- if a problem appears during your access period, it is for us to show that the content was not at fault, for example because your device or browser did not meet the requirements we told you about in clause 5.10. We may ask you to help us check this in a reasonable way;
- you can ask us to put the problem right free of charge, within a reasonable time and without significant inconvenience to you;
- if we cannot or do not put it right, or the problem is so serious that you should not have to wait, you can ask for a fair price reduction or, unless the problem is minor, end the contract and get a refund; and
- we will make any refund within 14 days of agreeing that you are entitled to it, through PayPal or the payment method you used, with no fee.
If the law of your country gives you a longer period or more protection, you keep it.
12. Free access with tutoring
12.1 If you book 50 hours or more of tutoring with London Law Tutor or one of our sister tutoring websites, you can use our practice assessments for the exam you are preparing for free. We call this complimentary access.
12.2 Complimentary access does not start automatically. Our admin team grants it by hand once we have checked your tutoring booking. To ask for it, apply for a student account and give details of your tutoring booking on the sign-up form, or email us.
12.3 Your complimentary access lasts until the earliest of:
- 12 months from the date we grant it;
- 30 days after your tutoring package ends, meaning the date when all the hours in it have been used, or it is cancelled or expires under its own terms; or
- the date your account closes.
12.4 If your tutoring package is cancelled and refunded, we may end your complimentary access early. If we do, we will tell you by email.
12.5 If you book fewer than 50 hours of tutoring, you do not get complimentary access, but you can buy practice assessments in the usual way.
12.6 Complimentary access is personal to you. You cannot transfer it to anyone else or exchange it for money.
12.7 Only students with complimentary access are paired with a tutor (section 13).
12.8 You must give us true information about your tutoring booking. If you do not, we may end your complimentary access and suspend or close your account.
13. Tutor and student pairing
13.1 Our admin team will try to pair each student who has complimentary access with a tutor. The tutor and the student must study or work in the same legal system, for example England and Wales, or New York. We aim to make a pairing within 5 working days of granting complimentary access, but we cannot promise one. If we cannot find a suitable tutor, we will tell you. We email both of you when we make a pairing.
13.2 On the site, you and your paired tutor or student see only each other's first name and the initial of each other's last name.
13.3 A paired tutor can:
- see their student's results on the site;
- set practice assessments for their student (we email the student when the tutor sets one);
- receive SQE2 answers the student sends for marking; and
- mark those answers and give feedback (we email the student when the tutor has marked them).
13.4 Tutors mark work with reasonable care and skill. Their marks and feedback are their professional view, given to help the student improve. They are a guide only and are not an official grade (see clause 6.4).
13.5 Your tutor will mark answers you send within a reasonable time. We aim for tutors to return marked answers within 7 days, but this is a target, not a promise. Whether time spent marking counts towards your booked tutoring hours is covered by your tutoring booking, not by these terms.
13.6 We may change or end a pairing, for example if the student's complimentary access ends or the tutor stops tutoring with us. If you have a concern about a pairing, please contact us.
14. Practise together
14.1 Practise together is a live session in the browser between a student with complimentary access and their paired tutor. It is not available to anyone else.
14.2 During a session:
- the student's answers, the tutor's answer reveals and notes on each question, and both people's chat messages are shown to both of you;
- these answers, reveals, notes and chat messages are stored in the session record; and
- the result is saved to the student's account when the session ends.
14.3 Practise together does not record audio or video.
14.4 Our admin team can see session records to give support, or to deal with a complaint or a concern.
14.5 In Practise together, you must:
- be respectful and polite;
- use the chat only for study and tutoring;
- not send anything abusive, threatening, discriminatory, sexual, offensive or unlawful;
- not share passwords, payment details or other information that does not belong in a study session; and
- follow the rules in section 16, including not recording the session.
14.6 If anything in a session worries you, tell us. If you are under 18, you can also tell a parent or guardian. We may end a session, or stop someone from using Practise together, if they break these rules.
15. Tutor terms
15.1 This section sets out our tutor terms. It applies if you apply for or hold a tutor account. The rest of these terms also apply to you where relevant.
15.2 When you apply, you must give true and complete details of your qualifications and admission, the subjects and exams you tutor, and your years of teaching. Tell us straight away if any of these change. Our admin team approves or declines each tutor application.
15.3 Tutors are self-employed and work with London Law Tutor Ltd under a separate contract for services. These terms sit alongside that contract. If there is a conflict between them, your contract for services wins. Nothing in these terms makes you our employee.
15.4 You can see information about your paired students, such as their first name and last initial, their results and the answers they send you. You must:
- use it only to tutor them through us;
- keep it confidential and secure, and not share it with anyone else;
- not copy it out of the site unless you need to for tutoring them through us;
- handle it in line with UK data protection law, our instructions and your contract for services, wherever you work from;
- tell us straight away if you think student information has been lost, shared by mistake or seen by someone who should not see it; and
- delete any copies you hold when you stop tutoring the student, unless your contract for services says otherwise.
15.5 You must follow your contract for services in how you deal with students you meet through us, including any rules it has about payment.
15.6 When you mark answers or give feedback, you must:
- do so honestly, carefully and with reasonable care and skill;
- mark fairly and consistently, using our sample answers as a guide;
- make clear that your marks are a guide only and not an official grade; and
- not give legal advice about a student's real legal problems.
15.7 You must be professional and respectful with students at all times. Remember that some students may be 16 or 17.
15.8 You may use our content only to tutor your paired students through us. You must not use our questions, explanations or sample answers in any other teaching, or share them outside the site.
15.9 We may suspend or close your tutor account under clause 4.9, or if your contract for services ends. When your tutor account ends, your access to student information ends too.
15.10 Because tutors are business users, clause 21.5 applies to you.
16. Rules for using the site
16.1 You must not:
- copy, download or reproduce our questions, explanations or sample answers, except as the site allows for your own study;
- take screenshots, photos or screen recordings of our content to share with others;
- record any assessment or Practise together session;
- post, publish, share or sell our content anywhere, including on social media, forums, study groups or other websites;
- upload, paste or type our content into AI tools (such as chatbots), forums, question banks or file-sharing sites;
- use bots, scrapers or other automated tools to access the site or copy its content;
- share your sign-in details, or let anyone else take an assessment for you;
- try to get around timers, attempt limits, access controls or security measures;
- try to reach parts of the site or information you are not allowed to see;
- upload or send viruses, malware or any other harmful code, or try to attack or overload the site;
- pretend to be someone else, or give false details about who you are;
- use the site for anything unlawful or fraudulent; or
- harass or abuse other users or our team.
16.2 You may use AI tools for your own study, as long as you do not put our content into them.
16.3 If you break these rules, we may suspend or close your account (see clause 4.9). If you share your access or our content, we may also claim from you the losses this causes us. We may report attacks on the site to the police.
17. Our content and your licence to use it
17.1 London Law Tutor Ltd owns the copyright in our questions, explanations and sample answers. We own, or have permission to use, everything else on the site, including its text, design and software.
17.2 We give you a personal licence to use the content you have access to:
- for your own private study or, if you are a tutor, to tutor your paired students through us;
- only while you have access: during your access period for paid access, while your complimentary access or tutor account lasts, or while a free sample is available on the site; and
- only in the ways these terms allow.
17.3 You cannot sell, lend, give or pass your licence to anyone else. We can give the same licence to other people. (In legal terms, the licence is non-transferable and non-exclusive.)
17.4 Your licence ends when your access ends, or earlier if we close your account under clause 4.9.
17.5 We keep all rights in our content that these terms do not expressly give you. Nothing in these terms transfers ownership of our content to you.
17.6 The names of exams and exam bodies belong to their owners.
17.7 Sections 16, 17 and 18 continue to apply after your access or your account ends.
18. Your content
18.1 "Your content" means anything you put on the site. This includes your answers, your SQE2 written answers, your chat messages in Practise together and, if you are a tutor, your marks and feedback.
18.2 You keep ownership of your content. If you are a tutor, your contract for services may say otherwise.
18.3 You give us permission, free of charge, to store, copy, display and use your content so that we can:
- provide our services, including showing your results and sharing your content with your paired tutor or student where these terms allow;
- give you support and deal with complaints; and
- keep records and meet our legal obligations.
You can still use your content in any other way you like.
18.4 The permission in clause 18.3 lasts for as long as we keep your content, as explained in our Privacy Notice. We may also combine your answers and results with other users' in anonymised form, which does not identify you, to check and improve our questions and to show average scores. We may keep using this anonymised information after your account ends.
18.5 If you are a tutor, your student may keep and use your marks and feedback for their own study.
18.6 Your content must not be unlawful or offensive, must not break anyone else's rights, and must not include other people's personal information without their permission. We may remove content that breaks these terms.
19. Availability and changes to the site and our services
19.1 We work to keep the site running, but we cannot promise that it will always be available or free from errors. We may need to pause it, for example for maintenance or to fix a problem.
19.2 If a problem on our side stops you from using paid access, see clause 11.6.
19.3 We may update and change the site and our content, for example to reflect changes in the law or exam formats, to correct errors or to improve our services. Any change we make to content you have paid for will keep it in line with its description and of satisfactory quality.
19.4 We may stop offering a product, or close the site. If this affects a practice assessment you have paid for and your access period has not ended:
- we will give you at least 30 days' notice by email so that you can use your remaining attempts, unless an event outside our control (section 22) prevents this;
- we will refund you for any attempts you have not started (see clause 9.7); and
- we will also refund a fair share of the price of any attempts you have already started, in proportion to the part of your access period you lose.
19.5 We may change or withdraw free samples and the register interest form at any time.
19.6 We take reasonable steps to keep the site secure. Please keep your own device and browser up to date too.
20. Links, our Law Blog, embedded video and live chat
20.1 Our site links to:
- our Law Blog at www.uklawtutors.com;
- our sister tutoring websites: londonlawtutor.com, newyorklawtutor.com, hongkonglawtutor.com, singaporelawtutor.com, sydneylawtutor.com and dubailawtutor.com; and
- our pages on LinkedIn, Instagram, TikTok and Facebook.
20.2 We write and run our Law Blog at www.uklawtutors.com. It is hosted on Blogger, a Google service. Blog posts are our content, so clauses 6.5 and 6.6 and section 17 apply to them, including the extracts shown on our home page.
20.3 Our home page shows the latest blog posts. Our own server collects them, so your browser does not connect to the blog until you click a link. No comments, sign-in or other parts of the blog load on this site.
20.4 Blog posts are general information, not legal advice. Each post reflects the law on the date it was published.
20.5 When you visit the blog, Google, which provides Blogger, receives information from your browser and may set cookies there. Our Privacy Notice and Cookie Policy explain how this works and who is responsible for your information.
20.6 Social media sites are run by other companies under their own terms and privacy policies. We are not responsible for those sites or for how they use your information.
20.7 Our SQE1 and SQE2 pages show a video from London Law Tutor's YouTube channel. Until you press play, the page shows our own placeholder image and nothing is sent to YouTube. When you press play, the video loads from YouTube in its privacy-enhanced mode (youtube-nocookie.com). YouTube (Google) then receives information from your browser, such as your IP address, and may store information on your device. YouTube's terms and Google's privacy policy apply to the video once you play it. A notice under each video explains this.
20.8 We are not responsible for the content of websites run by other people.
20.9 You are welcome to link to our home page. Please do not suggest that we support you or your content.
20.10 Live chat. You can chat with our team through the "Chat with us" button on every page. Live chat is provided by Zendesk, Inc. on our behalf. It loads only if you agree, through our cookie banner or by pressing "Start chat". Answers given in live chat are general information about our site and products. They are not legal advice and do not change these terms. Please do not send card details, passwords or sensitive personal information in live chat. Our Privacy Notice and Cookie Policy explain what information Zendesk receives and how long we keep chat transcripts.
21. Our responsibility for loss or damage
21.1 If you are a consumer, we are responsible for loss or damage you suffer because we broke these terms or did not take reasonable care. This only covers loss or damage that we could both have expected when the contract was made, either because it was obvious or because you told us about it. We are not responsible for loss or damage that nobody could have expected.
21.2 We do not exclude or limit our responsibility where it would be unlawful to do so. This includes our responsibility for:
- death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or the negligence of people who work for us;
- fraud, including telling you something we knew was untrue;
- breaking your legal rights as a consumer, including those described in section 11; and
- damage to your device or digital content as described in clause 11.3.
21.3 Our assessments are for private study. If you use them for your work or business, we are not responsible for any business losses this causes, such as lost income or lost work.
21.4 Your exam result depends on your own preparation and performance, and on how the exam body sets and marks the exam (see section 6). We are not responsible for your exam result, except where clause 21.1 or clause 21.2 applies.
21.5 If you are a business user, including a tutor:
- we are not responsible for any loss of profit, sales, business or revenue, business interruption, loss of business opportunity, goodwill or reputation, or any indirect or consequential loss (losses that do not come directly from what went wrong);
- our total responsibility to you for all claims about the site and these terms in any 12-month period is limited to £100 or the total you paid us in that period, whichever is higher;
- we make no promises about the site other than those set out in these terms, as far as the law allows; and
- this clause does not limit our responsibility for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law does not let us limit.
21.6 If you are a tutor and your contract for services says something different about responsibility for loss, your contract for services wins.
22. Events outside our control
22.1 We are not responsible for delays or failures caused by events outside our reasonable control. Examples include a widespread internet or power failure, a cyber attack we could not reasonably prevent, fire, flood, storm, epidemic or action by a government.
22.2 If this happens, we will tell you as soon as we can and take reasonable steps to reduce the effect. Our time to do what these terms require will be extended for as long as the event lasts.
22.3 If the event stops you from using paid access for a significant time, you may contact us to end the contract. We will then refund you as set out in clause 19.4.
23. Changes to these terms
23.1 We may change these terms only:
- to reflect changes in the law or in guidance from regulators;
- to reflect changes to our services, such as changes to how you can pay;
- for security reasons; or
- to make them clearer without changing their meaning.
23.2 Your order is covered by the terms that applied on the day you placed it. We will only change those terms for your order if:
- the law requires it;
- it is needed to keep the site secure; or
- it does not leave you worse off.
If a change leaves you much worse off, you can end the contract and we will refund you as set out in clause 19.4.
23.3 For your general use of the site and your account, a change takes effect on the date shown at the top of the new version. If you have an account, we will email you about any change that affects your rights or what you can do on the site at least 30 days before it takes effect. If you do not agree, you can close your account before then, and we will refund you as set out in clause 19.4.
23.4 You can ask us for a copy of the version of these terms that applied to your order (see clause 7.9).
24. Complaints
24.1 If you are unhappy with anything we have done, please tell us. Email enquiries@lawassessment.com with your name, the email address you use with us, details of any order, what went wrong and what you would like us to do.
24.2 We will acknowledge your complaint within 2 working days. We aim to give you a full answer within 14 days. If we need longer, we will tell you why and when to expect our answer.
24.3 If our final answer does not resolve your complaint, we will tell you by email whether an alternative dispute resolution (ADR) provider is available for your complaint and whether we are willing to use it. If one is, we will give you its name and web address. ADR is a way of settling a dispute with the help of an independent person, without going to court. We do not have to use ADR, and you do not have to use it before going to court.
24.4 You can also bring a claim in the courts (see section 27).
25. Your privacy
25.1 London Law Tutor Ltd decides how and why your personal information is used on this site. In data protection law, this makes us the "data controller". We are registered with the Information Commissioner's Office under number ZA236376.
25.2 Our Privacy Notice explains what information we collect, why we collect it, how long we keep it, who we share it with and what your rights are. Please read it.
25.3 Our Cookie Policy lists every cookie and item of browser storage the site uses. In short:
- the site sets a cookie called la_sid when you first visit any page. It keeps you signed in if you have an account and helps protect our forms from misuse. It is strictly necessary and is deleted when you close your browser;
- a cookie called la_consent remembers your choice about live chat for 6 months. It is also strictly necessary;
- free-sample results and SQE2 draft answers are kept only in your own browser (local storage), not on our server;
- live chat (Zendesk) sets cookies only if you agree, and the YouTube video only loads, and YouTube only receives information, if you press play. You can change your mind about live chat at any time through "Cookie settings" at the foot of every page;
- every page loads fonts from Google Fonts, so Google receives your IP address and browser details. This does not set cookies;
- the checkout page loads PayPal's payment buttons from PayPal, so PayPal receives your IP address and browser details and may set its own cookies to process your payment and prevent fraud; and
- we do not use analytics, advertising or tracking cookies.
Our Privacy Notice explains how we use the information involved.
26. General points
26.1 We may pass this contract to another business, for example if we sell Law Assessment. We will tell you by email first. Your rights will stay the same. If you do not want to continue, you can end the contract and we will refund you as set out in clause 19.4.
26.2 You may only pass your rights or responsibilities under these terms to someone else if we agree in writing.
26.3 This contract is between you and us. No one else has any right to enforce any of its terms.
26.4 If a court says one part of these terms cannot be used, the other parts still apply.
26.5 If we do not act straight away when you break these terms, we can still act later.
27. Which law applies and where you can bring a claim
27.1 These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales.
27.2 If you are a consumer, you can bring a claim in the courts of England and Wales. If you live in Scotland, you can bring a claim in either the Scottish courts or the courts of England and Wales. If you live in Northern Ireland, you can bring a claim in either the Northern Irish courts or the courts of England and Wales.
27.3 If you are a consumer and live outside the UK, the law of your country may give you protections that a contract cannot take away. You keep those protections, and choosing the law of England and Wales in clause 27.1 does not take them away. You may also be able to bring a claim in your own country's courts.
27.4 If you are a consumer and live in the European Union, you can bring a claim against us in the courts of the EU country where you live, as well as in the courts of England and Wales.
27.5 If you are a business user, any dispute about these terms or the site must go to the courts of England and Wales. This does not apply where your contract for services says something different.
