Cookie Policy
Last updated 19 October 2026. Read our privacy notice.
1. About this policy
1.1 This policy explains the cookies used on www.lawassessment.com ("Law Assessment" or "the site") and how you can control them. The site is run by London Law Tutor Ltd ("we", "us" and "our"), a company registered in England and Wales (company number 08253481).
1.2 This policy sits alongside our Privacy Notice, which explains how we use personal data, and our Terms and Conditions.
2. What cookies and similar storage are
2.1 Cookies are small text files that a website stores in your browser. Websites can also keep information in your browser through "local storage" and "session storage". In this policy, "cookies" includes all of these.
2.2 Under the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003, as updated by the Data (Use and Access) Act 2025, we may store or read information on your device only if you agree, unless an exception applies. The exception we rely on is that the storage is strictly necessary for a service you have asked for. If you visit from the European Union, the EU rules work in the same way. We ask before anything optional is set.
3. The cookies we use
3.1 This table lists every cookie and item of storage that can be set through Law Assessment.
| Name | Set by | Purpose | How long | Category |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| la_sid (cookie) | Law Assessment | Set on your first visit. Keeps you signed in and protects our forms. | Until you close your browser | Strictly necessary |

| la-history-v1 (local storage) | Law Assessment | Your free-sample results history, in this browser only. | Until you clear it | Strictly necessary |
| Items beginning la-sqe2-draft- (local storage) | Law Assessment | Keeps your SQE2 draft if the page reloads. Emptied when you save. | Until you clear it | Strictly necessary |
| la-portal-return (session storage) | Law Assessment | Admin team only: returns from viewing the site as a user. | Until the tab is closed | Strictly necessary |
| __zlcmid (cookie) | Zendesk | Keeps your chat conversation going between pages. | Up to 1 year | Live chat (optional) |
| Items beginning ZD- (local and session storage) | Zendesk | Remember the chat window and your conversation. | Until you close your browser, or until you clear them | Live chat (optional) |

| Cookies and storage set by PayPal | PayPal | Checkout page only: show the payment buttons, take your payment, keep it secure and prevent fraud. | Set by PayPal | Strictly necessary for the payment you ask to make |
3.2 The site's code also contains la-portal-v2, used only in an offline demonstration copy. It is never set on the live site.
3.3 We do not use analytics, advertising or tracking cookies.
4. How we ask for your consent
4.1 Cookie banner. When you first visit, a banner asks whether you want to allow live chat. You can choose "Allow live chat" or "Necessary only". Either way, we store your choice in the la_consent cookie. After 6 months we ask you again.
4.2 Live chat. Our live chat is the Zendesk Web Widget, provided by Zendesk, Inc., which handles chat data for us. It is not loaded unless you agree. If you press the "Chat with us" button on any page, a short notice tells you that chat is provided by Zendesk and will set cookies and send data to Zendesk. Pressing "Start chat" records your consent and loads the chat. Zendesk then receives your IP address, browser details, the page address and anything you type in the chat, such as your name, email address and messages. Our Privacy Notice explains how long we keep chat transcripts.
4.3 YouTube video. The video on our SQE1 and SQE2 pages loads only when you press play. Until then, the page shows our own placeholder image and nothing is sent to YouTube. When you press play, the video loads from youtube-nocookie.com, and YouTube (Google) receives information from your browser and may store information on your device. A notice under each video says so.
4.4 PayPal at checkout. The checkout page loads PayPal's payment buttons from PayPal. PayPal then receives your IP address and details of your browser and device, and may set its own cookies and similar storage to take your payment, keep it secure and prevent fraud. We treat these as strictly necessary for the payment you have asked to make, so we do not ask for your consent. PayPal is responsible for its own cookies and explains them in its own cookie and privacy statements. PayPal does not load on any other page.
4.5 Changing your mind. You can change your choice at any time through "Cookie settings" at the foot of every page. If you withdraw consent for live chat, the chat will not load on later pages, and the site tries to clear the cookies Zendesk has set. Any that remain stay until they expire or you clear them (see section 7).
5. Google Fonts
5.1 Every page loads fonts from Google Fonts (fonts.googleapis.com and fonts.gstatic.com). This means Google receives your IP address and details of your browser when a page loads. Google Fonts does not set cookies. Google's privacy policy explains how it uses this information.
5.2 Apart from Google Fonts, and PayPal's payment buttons on the checkout page (clause 4.4), no other website's scripts or images load when you view a page, unless you choose to use live chat or play the video.
6. Our Law Blog
6.1 Our Law Blog at www.uklawtutors.com runs on Blogger, a Google service. Blogger sets its own cookies there, not on this site. Our own server fetches the posts shown on our home page, so your browser does not contact the blog until you click through to it.
7. Controlling cookies in your browser
7.1 You can see, delete and block cookies and site data in your browser settings. Your browser's help pages explain how. To remove live chat cookies after you withdraw consent, clear the site data for www.lawassessment.com.
7.2 If you block the la_sid cookie, you will not be able to stay signed in. If you clear this site's data, your free-sample history and SQE2 drafts will be deleted, and we will ask for your cookie choice again.
8. Changes and contact
8.1 If we change the cookies we use, we will update this policy and change the date at the top. If a new cookie needs your consent, we will ask for it first.
8.2 If you have a question about cookies, email us at enquiries@lawassessment.com.
